A Resonance Between the Inner and Outer

The vastness of creation in all its dimensions is barely glimpsed through the limitations of the physical senses

Just as there is a range of sound beyond what the human ear can hear, so is there a range of vision that is beyond the sight of our physical eyes. The vastness of creation in all its dimensions is barely glimpsed through the limitations of the physical senses, and yet it is constantly and subtly influencing all that we create and do in the outer perceivable world. The Tibetan Master reminds us that:

…all that IS is ever present. What we are concerned with is the constant awakening to that which eternally IS, and to what is ever present in the environment but of which the subject is unaware, owing to short-sightedness. The aim must be to overcome the undue concentration upon the foreground of daily life which characterises most people, the intense preoccupation with the interior states or moods of the lower self which characterises the spiritually minded people and the aspirants, and the imperviousness or lack of sensitivity which characterises the mass of men. The Kingdom of God is present on Earth today and forever has been, but only a few, relatively speaking, are aware of its signs and manifestations. The world of subtle phenomena …is ever with us and can be seen and contacted and proved as a field for experiment and experience and activity if the mechanism of perception is developed as it surely can be… It is simply…a question of the acceptance, first of all, of its existence, the development of a mechanism of contact, the cultivation of the ability to use this mechanism at will, and then inspired interpretation.” Telepathy and the Etheric Vehicle, page 53-4

If we can turn our focus from the noise and pain of the world, be still, and extend our subtle senses into the vast inner realms, we can begin to perceive the glorious perfection that is yet to unfold. As the poet, Rabindranath Tagore, reminds us:-

If you cry because the sun has gone out of your life, your tears will prevent you from seeing the stars”.Rabidanath Tagore

Much of what we observe in the outer world has already been superseded by what has been built on inner dimensions of intuitive thought

Before anything appears in the world there is first the idea of it, triggered by a resonance between the inner realm and an outer experience. It is as though the inner and outer stimuli meet in an electric spark, a creative impulse, that then unfolds through to the construction of a worldly form. And the inner building ever takes place before the outer appearance. The inspirational idea arises and builds a thoughtform before the outer material construction. Creation continually unfolds. Much of what we observe in the outer world has already been superseded by what has been built on inner dimensions of intuitive thought, and its appearance is immanent.

The more we enter into our true being, the more light we build into what we create

The more deeply we extend our senses of perception, the more beautiful, good and true are the resulting creations. The more we enter into our true being, the more light we build into what we create, and the more we radiate the greater Life, β€˜the One in Whom we live and move and have our being’. The Tibetan Master reminds a disciple of the principles underlying the creative process:

…the expression of the creative faculty is radiation and magnetism. These bring to its possessor the material for creation and a magnetic capacity which arranges in due form and beauty that which radiation has evoked. Creativity is a consequence of a particular state of mind and a specific state of being; it signifies a point in evolution wherein the disciple is definitely radioactive. He can no more help creating in some form or another than he can help living. …karma is ever the source of physical plane creation, happenings and events…”Discipleship in the New Age II, page 539-40

All we create in the world results from deep causes unfolding through time and space. We apprehend them according to our sense of being and the extent of our perception. As our sense of identity expands beyond the bounds of the outer personality and into the subtle realms of being, we create more according to the divine source of the life that animates and sustains all creation.

We live in a shared sea of energies and influences through which everything is possible when directed to the greater good.

As karmic reverberations echo throughout our world, new realisations are dramatically being brought to the fore revealing the intrinsic value of everything in the delicate web of life in which we β€˜live and move and have our being’. We live in a shared sea of energies and influences through which everything is possible when directed to the greater good. As the Agni Yoga teachings remind us:

Man constantly experiences the effects of many influences, from astro-chemical rays and cosmic currents, to the flow of human thoughtβ€”everything can uplift or repress the consciousness. It will be asked, β€˜How then can the free will act if man is enslaved by so many different influences?’ To such a question you will often have to reply, β€˜The free will determines the main direction of man’s activity. If the will directs him to the creativity of good and to the common welfare, man can develop such a strong magnet that the most powerful influences will become his helpers.’
Truly, the heart that has learned self-denial can gather around itself a beautiful flower-garden of influences…” Supermundane, sloka 872

Creation is an inexorable process. Let us remember that we are among its builders.

…Do not think about the New World as something unattainable, but see yourself as its participant. It is no idle dreamβ€”the striving toward regenerated life, when the best creativity of the nations will merge in indomitable progress…” Supermundane, sloka 713

…may our hearts keep our vision true to the essential perfection of the unfolding Cosmos.

And may our hearts keep our vision true to the essential perfection of the unfolding Cosmos. As the poet reminds us in this beautiful myth:

When the creation was new and all the stars shone in their first splendour, the gods held their assembly in the sky and sang `Oh, the picture of perfection! the joy unalloyed!’
But one cried of a sudden—`It seems that somewhere there is a break in the chain of light and one of the stars has been lost.’
The golden string of their harp snapped, their song stopped, and they cried in dismay—`Yes, that lost star was the best, she was the glory of all heavens!’
From that day the search is unceasing for her, and the cry goes on from one to the other that in her the world has lost its one joy!
Only in the deepest silence of night the stars smile and whisper among themselves—`Vain is this seeking! unbroken perfection is over all!’”
― Rabindranath Tagore, Gitanjali
