Planting Seeds in the Garden of the Future

Around the world, quietly behind and beneath the daily news headlines, an army of the heart is gently but purposefully planting seeds in the garden of the future. With kindness, patience and respect for the dignity of life in every sentient being, they serve and build the new world. So much attention is drawn to those who are destroying the current world and its civilisation but let’s remember and support the myriad builders who toil, continually and mostly unrecognised, to create the world we all long for.

the ones who are most needed now are those who see through the surface soil to the seeds beneath

While everything ultimately serves the divine plan for our world, the ones who are most needed now are those who see through the surface soil to the seeds beneath, and nurture them with empathy, wisdom and the will to love.  Inspiring examples can be found in all fields of endeavour, in all nations and cultures. Some are more visible than others – they are the first shoots which the new dawn-light touches as it enters the world.

There are new politicians who speak of, and act according to, a new politics of love. There are journalists who focus on new initiatives for the good of the world, such as those who publish “Positive News”:  https://www.positive.news/. And many who work to reveal the beauty and dignity of the human spirit behind the headlines such as the reportage artist, George Butler, who so beautifully conveys the human story through his drawings of people in the crisis areas where the mainstream media offers only the surface view. These enlightened servers work by connecting heart to heart, and through group cooperation and collaboration. They may begin as a magnetic point but soon draw others of like heart and mind to expand their service in response to the great need. Like so many others, George Butler went beyond reporting to action and initiated a foundation (Action Syria https://actionsyria.org.uk/) to help and support those he met in his work. Others have responded similarly such as Lina Sergie Attar who founded the Karam Foundation https://karamfoundation.org/ . These are just two examples among those serving in the army of the heart.

Slowly and surely a new world order is growing within the human soul. Eighty years ago the Tibetan Master laid out the steps that we will take into the new world:

Certain major and spiritual premises should lie back of all efforts to formulate the new world order…

  1. The new world order must meet the immediate needand not be an attempt to satisfy some distant, idealistic vision.
  2. The new world order must be appropriate to a world which has passed through a destructive crisis and to a humanity which is badly shattered by the experience.
  3. The new world order must lay the foundation for a future world order which will be possible only after a time of recovery, of reconstruction, and of rebuilding.
  4. The new world order will be founded on the recognition that all men are equal in origin and goal but that all are at differing stages of evolutionary development; that personal integrity, intelligence, vision and experience, plus a marked goodwill, should indicate leadership…
  5. In the new world order, the governing body in any nation should be composed of those who work for the greatest good of the greatest number and who at the same time offer opportunity to all, seeing to it that the individual is left free…
  6. The new world order will be founded on an active sense of responsibility. The rule will be “all for one and one for all.” …
  7. The new world order will not impose a uniform type of government, a synthetic religion and a system of standardisation upon the nations. The sovereign rights of each nation will be recognised and its peculiar genius, individual trends and racial qualities will be permitted full expression. In one particular only should there be an attempt to produce unity, and that will be in the field of education.
  8. The new world order will recognise that the produce of the world, the natural resources of the planet and its riches, belong to no one nation but should be shared by all…
  9. In the preparatory period for the new world order there will be a steady and regulated disarmament. It will not be optional…”
~ The Externalisation of the Hierarchy, page 190-1

All these steps are part of the realisation of a great and simple Truth: the underlying oneness of all life. Alice Bailey explained that when the seeker enters fully and completely into this realisation:

…a new world opens up in which he sees his consciousness as one with all other energies, or conscious expressions of divine life.  The last veil of illusion is withdrawn, the great heresy of separateness is seen in its true nature, and the seer can say with Christ:
“Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us; that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.  And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one…  (John XVII.  20-23.)

The Tibetan Master asks us to:

…ponder on the vision of this new world order, preserving an open mind and realising that this new mode of living hovers over humanity and will materialise when selfishness is defeated, right human relations are correctly envisaged, and the ideal of this new world order is divorced from all nationalistic concepts and aspirations. It will not be an American world, or a French world, or a British world, or a totalitarian world. It will be the outcome of the civilisation which is passing and the culture which is the flower of that civilisation, but at the same time it will be neither of them. It will be a human world, based on right understanding of correct human relations, upon the recognition of equal educational opportunities for all men, for all races and all nations, and upon the fundamental realisation that ‘God hath made of one blood all the peoples upon the earth.’
~ The Externalisation of the Hierarchy, page 241

All that divides us within our sense of who we are must pass away from human consciousness – leaving only what unites us and serves our shared destiny. And this will come through the wisdom, love and power of the human heart. As Rumi reminds us:

“Your heart is the size of an ocean.
Enter its hidden depths,
and you will not find yourself alone.
How can a single wave locate itself in such immensity?
It cannot.
It remembers it is water.
Listen to the waves breaking within you.
That sound is older than your thoughts.”
