Radiating the Light of an Open Heart

In a world where dark clouds seem to be evaporating all too slowly, let us remember the eternal light that pervades the universe. Drawing on that inexhaustible source, let us work to dispel the darkness and open into the new era of Light that will bring to an end the pain and suffering of these times.  In so doing we align with those mighty forces that direct the evolutionary progress of our planet.

Light dispels darkness and denies its existence. Just as the sun rises to banish night, so our inner sun, our heart, can grow in presence to dissolve the dark thought currents that lead to destructive effects. All that is dark in the world only exists because we give it presence with the focus of our conscious thought. With vigilance we can focus our inner heart-light to dispel the dark corners of old thought patterns that can stain the emanations of our thinking.  We are told that:

“The solar ray withers and destroys, but light restores. Saturation is needed, not a sharp blow. Creators need to know how to saturate the atmosphere. A guarantee of success lies in the saturation of the atmosphere, which restores everything that exists…” [New Era Community, 215]

So let us banish the darkness by radiating the light of an open heart through our thinking so that it spreads and permeates the sea of human thought to manifest in compassionate and creative action. The Teachings point to the central power of the heart:

“Just as the sun is the heart of the system, the human heart is the sun of the organism. There are many sun-hearts, and the Universe represents a system of hearts; that is why the cult of Light is the cult of the heart. To understand this abstractly means to leave the heart out in the cold; but as soon as the Light of the sun-heart comes alive, the need for the magnet’s warmth will make it shine forth like a true sun.

…The Teaching about the Heart is as bright as the sun, and the warmth of the heart speeds as swiftly as a sunbeam. Everyone has felt astonishment at how a ray of the rising sun can instantly insulate everything from the cold. The heart can do the very same thing!

I am speaking of the warmth of the heart now that it is especially necessary. A thought surging forth in aspiration sets space on fire, while the warmth of the heart is a constant hearth. Courage dwells in the warmth of the heart—remember this! The manifestation of the dark forces acts like frost on a sown field. Only the heart’s warmth provides a radiant shield. …” [Heart 62]

 There is a growing wave of millions of brave souls around the world who are working to counter darkness, creating solutions and bringing aid to those in desperate need. Their hearts are expressing through the enlightened thinking that expresses in voiced truth and compassionate action. In this way the fog of untruth that has held us in thrall is being penetrated and dissolved.

Warriors of Light know they will triumph, but our best efforts are needed in these intense and chaotic times between the parting of the old world from the new. The Teaching reminds us that: “To be able to call yourself a bearer of the sun, you need to forget about the darkness,” [Leaves of Morya’s Garden II, 337] and that steadfast patience is required: “One may feel the power of the sunrise and store up solar prana, but immeasurable patience is required to fight cruelty.” [Supermundane 58]

Dark illusions only seem to have power in the material world because they find anchorage in the apparent separateness of forms. But in reality, everything is connected and sustained in a vast and subtle field of dynamic living energy.  This vast field is enlivened by the eternal life and livingness that underlies all forms as they rise and fall in evolutionary progression. We are told that: “…in all the ancient teachings the Cosmos was always considered as a total organism, and it was likened to the human organism.  Therefore, from this point of view, all the solar systems may be considered as smaller units or groups within the totality of the Cosmic, even as blood corpuscles in the single human organism…” [Letters of Helena Roerich I, 16 January 1935].

The Tibetan Master also describes this great reality in which we participate:

“We speak at times of an expanding universe; what we really mean is an expanding consciousness, for this etheric body of the Entity, Space, is the recipient of many types of informing and penetrating energies, and it is also the field for the intelligent activity of the indwelling Lives of the Universe, of the many constellations, of the distant stars, of our solar system, of the planets within the system, and of all that constitutes the sum total of these separated living forms. The factor which relates them is consciousness and nothing else, and the field of conscious awareness is created through the interplay of all living intelligent forms within the area of the etheric body of that great Life which we call SPACE.

… it is the CONSCIOUSNESS aspect which renders the form magnetic, receptive, repudiating and transmitting; this consciousness differs according to the nature of the entity which informs or works through a centre, great or small. Bear in mind also that the life which pours through all centres and which animates the whole of space is the life of an Entity; it is, therefore, the same life in all forms, limited in time and space by the intention, the wish, the form and the quality of the indwelling consciousness: the types of consciousness are many and diverse, yet life remains ever the same and indivisible, for it is the ONE LIFE.” [Telepathy and the Etheric Vehicle page 179-180]

Within that vast Life, the creative power of Light draws forth the divinely intended forms of its expression. The magnet of the heart attracts what is needed for construction and relates it in truth and in beauty of form as realisation unfolds through thought.  Looking at the Earth in the vastness of space we realise that we are integral parts of that beautiful cosmic jewel and its unique contribution to the greater Life. We might see ourselves as we truly are – not fractured parts in painful conflict but part of a whole inclusive life, rich in expression and possibility.

The evolutionary journey of our Earth takes us through the pain that brings the heart alive. The principle of pain underlying our planet’s destiny eventually carries us into that greater reality where pain no longer rules. 60 years ago, the Tibetan Master pointed to what we will graduate into:

“Have you ever thought, my brother, that just as there is a discipline of pain and of sorrow, there may also be a discipline of joy and of achievement? This is a thought worthy of attention. Men need these days to learn this new truth, and its perception will greatly change human consciousness. That which is bliss is today here or on its way, and the disciples and aspirants of this present time must be taught how to recognise and implement it.” [Discipleship in the New Age Vol II, page 671]

And so, we turn to the Light, and just as the Sun’s warmth opens flowers and brings forth fruit, the magnetic power of the heart’s light draws forth the light in all. Its radiation magnetically connects hearts through streams of lighted thought as we navigate the currents into the new world of light.
