In this 9-minute video, Ayeda presents Rumi’s Song of the Reed.
This poem by Rumi is presented by Ayeda Husein at an Abu Dhabi celebration of mystical poets. She explains the poem in English and then sings it in Farsi (Persian), accompanied by reed flute player, Hari Sreedhar.
The Song of the Reed is the opening poem of the Mathnawi (or Masnavi) which is a great poetic work by Rumi consisting of six books with 25,000 verses. It is of course a spiritually based work, one which teaches how to reach the goal of being in Love with God. Rumi only began composing this work in the final years of his life, with the final sixth book remaining incomplete. Rumi never wrote down a single word of his poetry, instead it was all dictated, and written down by his disciples.
