The Rising Tide of a New Human Consciousness

Something vast and new is moving through our world

We seem to be hearing more often these days such phrases as “record-breaking”, “unprecedented”, “within living memory”, “within recorded history”. So frequently are they being used that they have become a familiar part of this current moment in our human story. Fires, floods, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, pandemics and plagues are more numerous, more devastating and beyond the previous patterns of our living experience. Something vast and new is moving through our world and it is reflecting in a shifting of human focus from individual survival to broader concerns affecting whole societies and the well-being of our planetary life as a whole.

People in many parts of the world are rising up against regimes that are either directly or manipulatively limiting the will and freedom of their people. Millions are banding together in solidarity in support of human issues shared throughout our world such as Women4Justice and Black Lives Matter. Many issues are still coming to the surface to be recognised and addressed, particularly those that call on our social conscience to protect the vulnerable from neglect and abuse. Increasingly governments and administrations are being called to account where they have failed to provide needed care, support and protection.

A great rebalancing of the energetic dynamic of human living is in process

A great rebalancing of the energetic dynamic of human living is in process with an accompanying shift in human values. As many shift with the new realisations, a divide opens up between them and those still entrenched in the attitudes and values that created the issues now more urgently needing to be addressed. This division is becoming clearer at all levels: between individuals, groups, nations and groups of nations. It is between those who recognise all souls as valued parts of the planetary life and those who seek power and control; between those who aid and assist and those who exploit the many to advantage the few; between an old world that is passing and a new one emerging.

We are witnessing a great parting of the ways as the enlightened move forward into a higher turn of the evolutionary spiral, rising above and beyond the limitations of the old worldview and the structures of its civilisation. The cry for a more equitably balanced world is reaching a new crescendo as millions demand that human rights be honoured equally for all. Many are sacrificing personal safety and remembering their birthright as souls. They are warriors of light realising their power and making it felt. That power echoes through these words by Carlos Castaneda:

I am already given to the power that rules my fate.
And I cling to nothing, so I have nothing to defend.
I have no thoughts, so I will see.
I fear nothing, so I will remember myself.” from The Words of Don Juan Matus

What might a new humanity be like?  What might a new world be like?

What can we envision of the new worldview that is beginning to dawn across our world and shine through the subtle field of human consciousness? What might a new humanity be like? What might a new world be like? What laws of living would be understood and accepted? The Tibetan Master explains the shift from the inescapable Laws of Nature to free adherence to the Laws of the Soul:

…the Laws of Nature are imposed upon the mass of men, and cannot be avoided. If these laws are broken, infringed or evaded, they carry their own penalty within themselves, and this also cannot be avoided. These great protective laws are intended to guard the personalities through which the soul incarnates and eventually to cement and further all the great and possible relationships. The man passes from the stage of antagonism…to the control of these natural though divine laws, to a recognition of their inevitability and of their wisdom. They automatically then control him.
When this control by the Laws of Nature has become complete, the man becomes an aspirant and begins to come under the Laws of the Soul, which are laws concerned primarily with the establishing of the great Fellowship of the Universe. … The Laws of Nature, therefore, concern the activities of the soul in form and are mandatory and accepted by the form nature. The Laws of the Soul concern the life of the soul upon its own plane, and the relation which the blending soul and personality learn to establish with other souls and with the [Spiritual] Hierarchy. These are consciously and voluntarily obeyed, and are not just accepted as mandatory and as forced upon the man by force of circumstances, experience and evolution. They tend to bring about increasing relation between the Hierarchy of Souls and Humanity as a whole, between the great planetary centre which is the custodian of the principle of love and the planetary centre, humanity, which nurtures and distributes the energy of mind.” The Rays and the Initiations, page 156-7

Can we imagine a world where Souls live, love and freely share their light

Can we imagine a world where Souls live, love and freely share their light; where we are inspired by Those further along in unfolding light; where the continuity of the soul is realised, and identity is no longer limited to a temporary physical body? The rising tide of a new human consciousness and identity is taking us there. It is carrying our sense of being beyond the constraints of a dying civilisation and its values based on competitive materialism. All material forms eventually come to an end, but our essential soul continues to expand into shared being and progresses ever onwards. It is a process of unfolding realisation – bringing the real soul presence into the world whatever form suits its purpose from one incarnation to another.

If we look through the eyes of the soul, we can see the new world coming into being even now.

If we look through the eyes of the soul, we can see the new world coming into being even now. It is beginning to appear through those who recognise and work towards it, no matter how great or lowly they may be in worldly terms. Long ago the Master Jesus demonstrated how to live in the world yet be of another kingdom “not of the world”. He demonstrated the resurrection of the eternal Presence of the Soul from the temporary tomb of material form. As He moved among people from all levels of society, He made clear that everyone, including the lowliest of us, carries the spark of heaven within. In these words, the poet, Rabindranath Tagore, expresses the breadth of Christ’s presence and the expansion of heart into a compassion we might come to realise as conscious souls:

Here is thy footstool and there rest thy feet where live the poorest, and lowliest, and lost.
When I try to bow to thee, my obeisance cannot reach down to the depth where thy feet rest among the poorest, and lowliest, and lost.
Pride can never approach to where thou walkest in the clothes of the humble among the poorest, and lowliest, and lost.
My heart can never find its way to where thou keepest company with the companionless among the poorest, the lowliest, and the lost.” Gitanjali 10

This poet wrote in the context of a vision of the new world that is shared by all the courageous souls who strive towards it:

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high; Where knowledge is free; Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls; Where words come out from the depth of truth; Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection; Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit; Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever-widening thought and action- Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.” Gitanjali 35
