Hold Infinity in the Palm of Your Hand

For many decades there has been a continually growing realisation of our deep interrelatedness and interdependence with all others

Observing human thought and action within the turbulent change moving through our world, we may see on the one hand a desperate intensification of materialistic forces, but on the other hand a deeper and more expanded view reveals a new human consciousness emerging from the womb of the past. For many decades there has been a continually growing realisation of our deep interrelatedness and interdependence with all others, with all kingdoms in nature, and with our beautiful blue planet as a whole, and with the wider cosmos.

The interrelatedness of all is beautifully described in the imagery of Indra’s Net as described by Francis H. Cook:

Far away in the heavenly abode of the great god Indra, there is a wonderful net which has been hung by some cunning artificer in such a manner that it stretches out infinitely in all directions. In accordance with the extravagant tastes of deities, the artificer has hung a single glittering jewel in each “eye” of the net, and since the net itself is infinite in dimension, the jewels are infinite in number. There hang the jewels, glittering “like” stars in the first magnitude, a wonderful sight to behold. If we now arbitrarily select one of these jewels for inspection and look closely at it, we will discover that in its polished surface there are reflected all the other jewels in the net, infinite in number. Not only that, but each of the jewels reflected in this one jewel is also reflecting all the other jewels, so that there is an infinite reflecting process occurring.” Cook, Francis H. (1977), Hua-Yen Buddhism: The Jewel Net of Indra

…human perception of reality has been greatly changed by seeing images of our Earth from space.

Events such as India’s recent landing of an observer craft on the moon remind us of the oneness of our world in the vaster context of space. Astronauts have spoken of their experience of the “overview effect”, and human perception of reality has been greatly changed by seeing images of our Earth from space. (Click here for a video about the overview effect.)

Realising our oneness and wholeness changes our sense of who we are and how we relate to our world and all within it. It shifts our consciousness into a truer sense of identity, of being. Right now, this new consciousness is labouring to be born through the crises, catastrophes, and growing chaos as world climate changes, and systems based on old thinking begin to fail as they no longer align with our emerging understanding, values and expectations.

The human soul is awakening and is beginning to manifest through each kind act and thought

This new birth carries the same essence, its spiritual DNA, but in a new and fresh form. The divine nature of the human has always been there but is now coming into a new incarnation and, forgetting past lives, it arrives with the freshness and ready joy of a new youth – born out of the past but with no attachments to it, carrying the divine potential that is eternally present behind our unfolding realisation of it. The human soul is awakening and is beginning to manifest through each kind act and thought for the welfare of others and the planet – physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

As we come to realise that we are more than the temporary forms we inhabit, we cease to identify with them

As we come to realise that we are more than the temporary forms we inhabit, we cease to identify with them and enter a greater range of possibilities and a vaster sense of the freedom of being. Forms are both changeable and interchangeable and are no longer the only aspect of our presence. This might be seen as reflected in the transplanting of bodily organs, cosmetic surgery, or prosthetics. The loss or gain of any bodily parts does not change who we essentially are, though it may change our realisation about who we thought we were. (Click here for a video about transcending limblessness.)

As we share the same human DNA, the one human soul and spirit, so we also share the great reservoir of substance from which all forms are created and to which they return when the inner spark either moves on into a greater freedom or reincarnates in another form as required by karma and the need of the progressing soul. This infinite reservoir is the all-pervasive spirit manifesting as matter. It is an aspect of the Oneness that is the Mother of us all, and of all things.

That which is created by the one, the universal, law of Cosmos is not sundered by the ordinance of cosmic energy. Unity is manifest through all Space, and this law is reflected in all manifestations of life. The multiple forms of Infinity reflect all cosmic fires. Man alone, separating himself from the infinite energy of the manifestation of Cosmos, is precisely eluding Truth. Does Cosmos ordain the annihilation of that which is held together by the one creative and life-imparting impulse?
… Cosmos creates for Infinity. Cosmos builds with co-measurement. Communion is imperative, and Materia Lucida is the consciousness of the cosmic rays. You are right in terming Materia Lucida the great Mother of the World. You are right in calling Materia Lucida Cosmic Love. Verily, the Universe is woven with the yarn of Lucida and the lever of Love. Poor humanity alone has clothed itself in isolation, with the veil of dark denial.” Infinity I, 52.

All the dimensions of life from the manifest material world to the realm of formless spirit, are composed of the Mother’s substance, Materia Lucida – from the densest accumulations to the subtlest where matter becomes indistinguishable from Spirit. As HP Blavatsky asserted: “Matter is spirit at its lowest point of manifestation and spirit is matter at its highest.”

…our expanding journey lifts us into complete identification with the whole of Life.

Within this context we realise that distinctions are only aspects of unfolding time and space, passing markers to guide realisation as our expanding journey lifts us into complete identification with the whole of Life. Then wholeness becomes actualised in our embodied awareness: –

“…it is realised that there is no identity apart from universality and no appreciation of the universal apart from the individual realisation.” The Rays and the Initiations, page 106

We are told that: –

“This identification does not concern the form nor the soul but only the spiritual point of positive life which in the human unit we call the ‘Jewel in the Lotus.’ It should be remembered in this connection that there is a jewel at the heart of every atom. A Treatise on Cosmic Fire, page 1245

Mother matter and Father spirit are the great primary distinctions, the origins that bring forth conscious realisation so that Cosmos may know itself in every possible manifestation. And they are at the heart of every atom – from the tiniest to the greatest, all infinite reflections of the one vast Life. The poet, William Blake, points to this realisation into which the human soul is awakening:

To see a World in a Grain of Sand

And a Heaven in a Wild Flower

Hold Infinity in the Palm of Your Hand

And Eternity in an Hour

~ William Blake ~

(Opening lines of Auguries of Innocence)
