A Pathway of Light

Oft-repeated things may also be the soonest forgotten, obscured by familiarity while our attention wanders elsewhere. Thus the magical process of conveying meaning and significance can be short-circuited when we speak automatically, detached from a deep and living engagement in the flow from the subtle world of inspiration into the world of its expression. Yet every word has the potential to be a container of radiant enlightenment – a magical gem – if we allow the inner light to shine through it. Without that light radiating from within, any form is merely a construction of substance. And words too can be mindless formulas unless we energise them with heart and the power of intent.

In their wizard training Harry Potter and his friends learn that magical formulas are ineffective (even dangerous) when merely recited with the wave of a stick. The real power of magic happens only when consciousness is disciplined into focussed attention and intention. The impact is safely constructive when the heart is engaged and driving the direction of our focussed will. The will to love then irradiates the forms so that they become magnetic, attract attention and so become conveyers and distributors of light, love and essential truth.

Any form can be a lighted form – a word, an idea, a house, an organisation, a human being – a conveyer of a flow from a pervasive and subtle world of Light to meet outer need. There are also some word forms that have been subtly endowed with radiant light, such as the Lord’s Prayer or the Great Invocation, so that even reciting them with limited understanding magically invokes their potency to transmit light.

If we act according to the basic laws of magical work – “energy follows thought” and “the eye directs that energy” – we realise that the “eye” is the point of sensitivity by which we are aware and through which we focus attention so that energy is directed according to that attention by means of our thought. The more firmly and steadily we stand in that point of awareness, of light, the more clearly and potently we direct and distribute the energies of light; the more clearly light shines through us.  And the more steadily we focus our attention, the more extensive is the distribution of its radiance like a clear beacon.

When we pray or sound a formula of affirmation or invocation, its effectiveness depends on where our point of awareness is and on what our attention is focussed. And the degree we are identified with the stream of light that radiates constantly from the spiritual realms, is the degree to which our point of awareness and being is located there. The Tibetan Master reminds us that:

What must be grasped is that all that IS is ever present. What we are concerned with is the constant awakening to that which eternally IS, and to what is ever present in the environment but of which the subject is unaware, owing to short-sightedness. The aim must be to overcome the undue concentration upon the foreground of daily life which characterises most people, the intense preoccupation with the interior states or moods of the lower self which characterises the spiritually minded people and the aspirants, and the imperviousness or lack of sensitivity which characterises the mass of men. The Kingdom of God is present on Earth today and forever has been, but only a few, relatively speaking, are aware of its signs and manifestations.” Telepathy and the Etheric Vehicle, page  54

Our world is in reality a Lighted Being. Its light radiates through the beautiful, jewel-like, blue planet floating in intricate relationship within the solar system and the universe. Its ecosystems are designed down to the finest details of sub-atomic life to be mutually sustaining in perfect balance and relationship. All the kingdoms of Mother Nature have been perfectly created to sustain the One Life we all share. The human kingdom is the gateway through which the realisation of this One Life may fully express. We have been creeping towards this revelation as though on “all fours” looking at the substance of the earth while we refined our mechanism of contact and understanding. Gradually we are stretching to stand upright to see further into the greater Whole in which we are an intrinsic part. We have refined our mental and emotional aspects to the point where they can think and feel more subtly, sensitive to finer realms of spiritual being, and have begun to form the bridge between the worlds whereby light shines through into the outer world – a Pathway of Light.

Our eyes are gradually becoming accustomed to that light. After long eons of comparative darkness, eyes take time to adjust. At first some might reject the light as too painful for eyes accustomed to darkness. Depending on where our consciousness is, it may be very dark and hence painful to experience the piercing light of purity, or it may be as welcome as the sunrise after a stormy night. As light enters the world, pouring through more and more enlightened minds and hearts, there is a turmoil of mixed reactions. All have the opportunity to adjust to a new Light, a new realisation and a new loving understanding with its impact on our mode of living and relating to one another and our world. We can see those joining the Pathway of Light and others who may be as yet too deeply immersed in the darkness of matter to allow their inner light to lead them home. There is a mighty and painful parting of ways going on as glamours, brought to light in the incoming flow, are confronted as we either see through them or succumb. The new energies pouring in are the harbinger of the Coming One (by whatever name He may be known, such as the Christ). The Tibetan Master speaks to a disciple of the impact of such potent purity of light:

I refer specifically to the Christ Himself, as a living Individual, attentive to the reactions of disciples who possess sufficient strength of purpose, clarity of intention and dedication to enable them to touch the periphery of His aura (referred to in The New Testament as “the hem of His garment”). …  It will bring its own difficulties, such as over-stimulation and the arousing of glamour but—if you are watchful and alert—you can soon become aware of it.” Discipleship in the New Age II, page 587-8

As we observe the world we can see that the world disciple, Humanity, is now feeling the impact of that imminent approach. Shall we, together, reach out to touch the hem of that Garment?  Will we recognise and welcome a Light which cannot be contained by any form but radiates freely for all?  Its reflection is already here: there are so many enlightening initiatives already unfolding around the world whereby the light that links us all in deep relationship is revealing new, organically alive ways of living and being and expressing the life of the World. One amazing example is a foundation set up by the mother of a 6 year old boy killed trying to help others in a school shooting. As we grow in light – and in strength of numbers, of mind and of heart – we may realise the human kingdom as the Kingdom of the Heart. It is the lighted heart, the hearth-light of the world, and is in process of igniting and kindling. Already its warmth can be felt in so many of the previously cold, dark corners of the world. We urgently need to fan the flames.

The Teacher has joined in an eternal oath about establishment of the New World, so follow Him with your every effort. Humanity needs to purify its existence, so reconstruction must begin from the hearth, from everyday life. You should not wait for whole nations to start moving; on the contrary, the life principle will undergo a worldwide reformation on a personal basis, quite apart from nationality. So you should first of all remember that it is not the narrow old boundaries that will partition the world. The foundation of psychic energy is not limiting itself to a specific nation, but will discover a completely different world pattern.” Heart 173.

We are learning to think in the heart, to speak through the heart so the magic of loving communication, exchange and sharing can transform our world into the Kingdom of Souls. There, ready to meet us, are those enlightened Teachers and Guides Who have gone before us. We have only to open the door of our lighted house and go forth, entering into a vaster world of Light to meet Them.
